Casa Bianca-Presidential Pizza Pie





Last night was
Casa Bianca in Eagle Rock. I was introduced to this Italian Eatery about 10 years ago and was immediately hooked. Yes I know everybody complains about the 30 minutes to an hour wait but its well worth it!  I always try and get there early to get my name on the list and then  just grab an adult beverage at The Chalet which is just on the next block.  

Upon entering Casa B you will notice the many Head Shots of celebrities and musicians that adorn the entry.   You will also be bombarded with groups people and the typical Pizza place decor stuck in the 50's red and white plastic table cloths along with green walls and hanging lamps.  I love this place, it is hands down the one pie in Los Angeles that I use as a measuring stick against all other pies.  Also, for those haters and people claiming it taste's nothing like pies from Chicago you need to recognize. This family business was started by a transplant from Chicago in 1955. The owner's Sam Martorana started making Pizza at Tony's Pizza Chicago. I have also heard that while President Obama was going to Occidental Collage here in LA he would visit Casa Bianca on occasion and liked the Hawaiian style the restaurant served.














Taste: I am from Chicago and as many people are familiar with the Deep Dish they often overlook Chicago's other great pie that is Chicago's Thin-Crust. Casa Bianca on my first visit reminded me of the taste of those thin Chicago pies. Thin and slightly crispy, sauce is spiced and tangy the toppings especially the sausage are excellent. The cheese goes all the way to the end as to not leave a ton of crust. It is also cut in a weird 'Party Cut' that makes these geometric slices. I have not quite figured out why they do this yet but I like the kite shaped slices the best!

The Deal: Casa Bianca is cash only, but there is an ATM inside. Be prepared to wait. They do take reservations for parties of 6 or more.
